A little world in the quilt
An original quilt spreads diagonally through the portrait and gently rises into a miniature landscape made entirely of a few broad fabric patches: two rolling hills, one small stitched house and a broad winding path. Show its fabric thickness and bound outer edge so the child can understand that the whole little world is a quilt. Use the reference only for sewn patch joins and the way the fabric lies. Invent the outer binding and a much simpler pattern; do not copy its precise patch pattern or dense quilting. A single broad sewn label at the lower quilt edge reads 'Birtles Fabrics'. Sparse seam contours make large closed coloring shapes, never hatching or repeated stitch texture. The pleasure is coloring the big fabric pieces and imagining the little house inside them.
